Department of International Relations deals with general structure of the modern international system, actors of this system and the relations among these actors. International Relations, at the same time, is in a tight relation with other branches of the social sciences such as law, economics, politics, sociology and history as much as their contribution to the international system. .
International Relations has three departmental sub-fields: International Relations, Diplomatic History, and International Law.
Graduates of this department have the opportunity to be employed in both public and private sectors. Graduates can find posts in high bureaucratic levels of state such as Foreign Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Undersecretaries of Public Treasury and Foreign Trade. Students who are also equipped with international economic and commercial relations also have the opportunity to work in almost every branch of the private sector.
Undergraduate Program
During the first four semesters of the undergraduate program, students are taught both the fundamentals of social sciences and historical and legal aspects of the international relations discipline. In these semesters students are also instructed in other fields having common grounds with international relations.
In the next four semesters, the focus of study is both orientation towards more specific topics of international relations by theoretical and practical courses, and detailed area studies on global and regional developments.
Department of International Relations gives an education supported by English. Students attend a one-year preparatory program in English. At the end of this program, those who achieved proficiency exam are welcomed to English-supported undergraduate program. One course in every semester will be instructed in English. Besides, in the last four semesters, students have a must course called Diplomatic Correspondence which provides students with students using English more actively and in a sophisticated manner.
Starting with the fifth semester, students have the opportunity to orient themselves in the fields whichever they wish by choosing some of their credits from a wide variety of electives.
Students who complete the required credits in eight semesters are expected to submit a Final Paper of 30-40 pages length written on a topic which is chosen by themselves in coordination with their advisors.
